Ways into Work support the push for diversity at Highways England’s Supplier Diversity Forum

On 3rd March, we were extremely pleased to partner with our friends and colleagues at Kier Construction to share good practice and talk about their successful employment programme – one which has been rolled out to Ways into Work clients over the last couple of years.

Over 260 delegates from a whole range of suppliers to Highways England registered for the event to listen to companies who are paving the way with innovative programmes, aimed at removing barriers to employment for the disadvantaged and/or driving accessibility for customers with diverse needs in the communities they serve.

Several Ways into Work clients have been through the programme, which aims to give an insight into jobs in the construction sector and build confidence and skills.  Our Employment Coaches supported clients through the programme and worked with Kier to evolve and adapt the programme to meet our clients’ needs.  The programme created paid opportunities for a number of Ways into Work’s clients.

Attendees at the diversity forum commented that the presentation demystified the process of making reasonable adjustments through the recruitment process and ‘demonstrated how easy it actually could be’.  Our thanks go to Kier for their hard work in changing lives, one job at a time.

Ways Into Work was a part of the recent CVS Slough event at Singh Sabha, where our colleague Rahma and Monica joined other incredible organisations, all working towards one shared goal: improving the wellbeing of our community. 🤝 A huge congratulations to Asma Aziz on her appointment as Chief Executive Officer of CVS Slough! Her inspiring leadership brought the event together, highlighting the power of unity and collaboration. From meaningful discussions to a fun and thoughtful quiz session, we were able to share ideas, listen, and learn from others including Turning Point, Frimley Health, Youth Parliament, and many more. It was truly energising to see how aligned we all are in our missions.💙

It was great to get a chance to talk to Tan Dhesi MP – Member of Parliament for Slough, on his recent visit to The Curve. He was very interested in the work we do and the positive impact it has supporting people with barriers to employment, into paid work. Our Charity successfully works with those most affected not only helping to ‘Get Britain Working’ but also meeting our mission of ‘Changing Lives One Job at a Time’. We look forward to continuing the dialogue with him to further benefit residents of Slough.
