How time flies – Fred Reed collects his award for achieving his first full year of service at Sodexo, Brunel University.
Things haven’t always been easy and the journey has seen some heavy weather but it’s with immense pleasure we can say that Fred has weathered the storm and is flying high! Fred started as a Chef de Partie, but having come straight out of college it was a steep learning curve and he struggled with the pressure and expectation of the role. With fantastic support from Caitlin McArthur (Contracts Director), Stuart Farrell (Deputy Head Chef) and the team, along with Fred and we decided to re-look at the best way forward.
An apprenticeship appeared to be the answer, and it certainly proved to be the best way forward. It took the day to day pressure off Fred, and allowed his personality and confidence to really shine through. Just the other day we heard the perfect example of this where Fred asked for a team members leaving do to be rearranged so he could surprise her (and everyone!) with a huge bouquet of flowers – what a gent! This was a huge step for the usually quiet Fred, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. Fred’s abilities have developed hugely and as you can see his role within the team Sodexo at Brunel is truly established.
Well done Fred and here’s to another year of cooking on gas!
